A walk on the corridors of a deserted school....

Those deserted corridors, I walked not fast,
Bright classrooms, empty and vast...
Huge blackboards inked with chalk,
The dreams of toddlers forgotten but marked.

Those cheerful posters of Sun, God and Moon,
Decorated the walls of those dusty rooms...
Every step I took, heard few silent ones steep..
Every corner I peeped, a hidden giggle leaped...

The school bell, I wish to ring,
Wanting to see those kids flood in..
Those cheerful, lovely children gliding inside,
Full of whispers, laughter and pride.

Parents waving their children bye,
Wards planning for those little lies...
Praises or punishments taken alike,
Those tiny little eyes, shine to rise...

Teachers planning for the day's lessons,
Kids await not so patient,
They dodge, they play, they learn and have fun,
They wager, they lose but gain in the long run.

The deserted school not so deserted,
I just have to close my eyes to hear the chatter...
Every stone tells me a story,
I love to listen the now forgotten glory.

If I have hands, two storey long,
I would hug and hold the building strong,
Those invisible tear stains seen on the walls,
I try wiping through this sodden song..

Wish I could revive, the fallen pride,
Wish to raise the mast back and straight,
The silent words screaming loud,
Closed my heart and walked not so proud...

Kamal Hassan's Vishwaroopam - "Justice delayed is justice denied"

Today's The Hindu front page coverage on vishwaroopam issue

After observing the battle between an individual and Tamil Nadu government for the past week or two, a not too funny Tom and Jerry race, I decided to write this post and vent my anger, frustration, anxiety and worry on my poor readers.

My usual tag 'I am an optimist, I still in believe in India', has now taken a severe hit.  Either am turning a pessimist or India is testing my optimism and checking my threshold.

This "individual", is a guy who has creative brains, awesome screen presence, with an aura of intelligence and subtle spark of humour.

Kamal Hassan, is an entertainer to the core, who contributes to Indian cinema as a versatile actor, producer, director, screen writer. Someone whom we can look up to and feel proud about.  Someone who enters our conversation quite frequently without our knowledge, through his quips, through his ways of looking at ordinary happenings in an extraordinary way.  Quite a mature, confident (some call it arrogance) man, who pushes himself to achieve perfection, which is hard to achieve in an old fashioned, lethargic, corrupted society like ours. Political leaders waiting for a chance to divert the prying eyes of public from their not so pure public profile.

Whoa! Why am I talking in circles?

Vishwaroopam, his new spy thriller has faced lots of obstacles right from the day it was given the name and continued till the day it almost got released, only to be shelved again. For more than 2 weeks now, we have been talking about this, reserving tickets waiting to watch in the cinemas or paid for the DTH and waiting to watch the film in our drawing room with our family.  did we get to watch? While few of our neighbouring states, countries had the privilege to watch this film and giving good ratings, we are still debating on whether the film would see our theatres or not.

There is this man, who pledged all his properties to make this film and is on the verge of losing everything hard earned by him.
There is this man, who doesn't easily yield to so called rituals of Indian film industry, doesn't stick to norms, quite transparent and strict when it comes to what he preaches and practice.
There is this man, who doesn't support any political party and has no godfather to back him up.
There is this man, who sculpted this film from all angles and made sure there is absolutely no flaw and when he took few steps back to admire his handiwork, to his horror found it was grabbed for not one reason and kept out of his reach till today.
There is this man who after all his hardships said he will burn the tamil version of movie before CM's office and leave Chennai for good.

Even if supreme court dismiss the ban, we can find a new flaw and start a new fight all over again.

God save India, a name sake democracy, a name sake secular country.

PS: Heard that our CM has finally broke her silence and offered amicable settlement.  I can only hope and pray that during  the tripartite meeting, a new issue doesn't crop up.

Calling a human, a 'Resource'.... is it right?

From being a "personnel management" person and moving on to "Human resources management", it had been a very long association for me with employee employer relationship.

As a part of "personnel management", during early 90s, there were few not so hilarious moments, which now is hilarious to me, when I considered myself as an employer himself, as I represented the organisation and always called "We", when I spoke to everyone.  What I failed to see then, blame it on my tender age of 22, was Viji was an employee like the other 407 employees, 408 being my number and I lived to see another 821 people join, before I left the organisation.

So why "human resources"?

Coal is a resource, steel as well and now we have added human to it.  When I googled the term 'resources', I found amongst other natural resources, 'labor' was also added.  Shouldn't we think about considering HR as human relations rather than human resources? A resource is something that can be 'measured, divided, moved, sold, exploited, traded', would you like to be one?  No one likes to be called a resource, that too a "shadow" one at that. :)

If you still want to continue calling fellow humans as resources, then probably you should think of addressing your family members as resources too...

Then on this Bhogi day, I should say...

"It's Bhogi today, I got up early in the morning to see my "Kolam resource" (maid) putting rangoli before my house and was waiting for the "milk resource" to get me the milk packets... since, the senior most resources (mom and dad) were sleeping, I thought of not disturbing them and tip toed into the kitchen and boiled the milk for coffee. The most junior resource (my son) in my family wanted to go to a new film "Nanban" that got released two days back.  But, since all money was with this senior resource (my husband), I was not able to give him money and we had to wait till the senior resource came home."

Would we call our family members as resources, however resourceful they are?  Most of us, don't realize that  by calling an individual a 'resource' we are politically correct and humanely wrong.

See the difference in the two statements made here:
  1. "X is very dedicated and energetic resource in my team and I am willing to trade him to you if you can pay me for X$/hour".
  2. "Mr.X is an energetic and dedicated person in my team and he will definitely add value to your project. His consultation would cost you X$/hour".
This is business and its not wrong to be in "selling services" (as it is put in offshoring), but we can put it in more proper fashion is what I feel.

This post is a small attempt to shout to this world, through this miniscule window of mine, that it is wrong to call our colleagues resources. If this article makes an individual think and ponder if he would be liked to be called a resource, then I succeeded in my attempt.

"Bhogi" is celebrated to discard old things and focus on new belongings.  Likewise, I discard the old habit of calling a human being as a resource, starting this dawn.
