Kids of 70s, 80s and 90s

Through centuries kids has been kids. Born in 70s I had witnessed kids of 80s, 90s and millennium.

Starting with a statutory warning, I am not judging and this post is only an observation from a 70s kid.

70s kids

1. We had company.  When we walk down the street we bumped on friends or bullies. The physical them. For survival we made more friends that led to more enemies, (friend's enemies ours too). We took sides, we made some promises, broke some. We crossed our fingers, when we lied. We ran down the street to welcome grand parents, uncles, aunts, unburdened them of their cloth bags or baskets and carried them, wondering about why the bag was heavy and if any sweets, toffees, or if we're too lucky the multi coloured striped rubber balls resting in a corner of the bag.  We shift restlessly till they go to the loo, wash their face, hands, legs, what not...talking all the time to parents, sipping coffee.  We wait not too patiently like a Stork. And when they call your name, you run and stand next to them.  They will remove things one by one and finally hand us a newspaper wrap, that may have some candies or pull the much awaited ball out. We rush out to show the ball eagerly to our friends and they all stretch their hands to receive the ball to admire.   In less than a minute they will start throwing the ball and you go behind them shouting not to and slowly the hours stretch as we play. By night you hijack the torn ball home in the well worn half pant pocket.

2.  With a spring, we were ready to walk any distance.  We just needed a reason to be outdoors and going to nearby chettiar kadai to get 200 grams mustard and 1/4 kg sugar for a 10 paise commission was enough incentive. The ultimate luxury being hiring (h)our cycle and trying to manage the huge bicycle with Monkey pedal. The parents didn't put curfew for their children to play outside, there were kidnappers, murderers, rapists, psychos lurking but it never stopped us from roaming around. Parents asked the children to be careful but they didn't try to instill fear in them.  The children were bold, independent.  All children read together, there were no special schools, we never knew terms like hyperactive, attention deficit etc. There were only three types, intelligent, mediocre, dumb.

3.  If you caught cold, you weren't rushed to hospitals.  There were only 4 vaccines small pox vaccination, DPT, BCG, polio drops.  Once in a year medical checkup in school, the doctor will do eye test just by examining our eyes with torch, check if you have vaccine marks, you were made to remove the uniforms and made to stand with shimmies (shifts) as we used to call then. Boys were checked in different rooms most of them bare chested clutching at their half pants, some of the boys who forget to wear their briefs, their face transparent and their fear  evident, "what if?" I remember there was this element of fear, excitement around.  Flu and malaria was common and we in general used to feel jealous of kids who get typhoid.  Typhoid somehow was looked at as a posh word and taking 15 days leave was really a boon.  The most feared disease was Diphtheria.

4. Ponds or Gokul sandal talcum and in summer days Nycil was the only cosmetics we knew of.  Our hairs parted and combed with oil, our talcum coated faces smeared along with the oil was a common scene.  A lifebuoy soap cut into two pieces lasted almost a month.  We all sang loud while taking bath, our voices gurgling with water poured by a mug, was enchanting.

5.  We never bothered to wash fruits, we brush it on our skirts or trousers and take a bite and offer to
friends, they turn it the other side and take a bite.  Somewhere it all get mixed up.  Moms kept sugar, jaggery on the loft, but we try to take it during noon when they sleep and though we are careful to place it exactly as we took, the CB CID mothers when they wake up, they will turn and ask, "Who opened the sugar dabba?" And we wonder how they knew?

6. When once in 6 months or so visit your native village, eager to meet friends whom you made during past summers, hijacking some gifts some broken toys, withered balls, an old shirt of yours or a broken steel torch light, pencils and feel the happiness spread inside you, when their faces beam with joy.  It is also quite normal, the next day you fight with them and ask the gifts back.  You fight, you make it up.  You walk in the paddy field holding a bunch of leaves like actress Sridevi and try to rehearse the sway of hips and sing, "sendhurapoovae sendhurapoovae, jillendra kaatrae en mannan engae en mannan engae nee konjam sollayo?".  Taking bath in the pump set with cousins and shyly watch if your boy watches you.  The boy who shows attention is Kamal Haasan to your eyes and Nambiar to the other boys.

Years moves on.... You step into 80s...

To be continued

Happy Birthday, Akka!

There are times when you are in a haste, slip to mention important people in your life, who made an impact.

Life has to be celebrated, when it deserves celebration.  To be mourned, when it deserves mourning.

It was on 2nd September, 1994, I stepped in to my husband's home for the first time.  A new bride, stepping with lots of love, hope, expectations, fear.  I was that.  The first one and half month was heaven, life went peaceful for all of us.  Later it was a tough period for all of us, with my mother in law's hospitalization and passing away.

For any bride in India, this can be considered an ill omen.   She can be taunted, troubled with remarks that can hurt for the life time.  Yes! there were couple of such remarks that did hit the mark then.  But, today when I look at it, I don't think those comments were meant to hurt me.  It was their loss of a dear one, passing away without much warning.  Even these trivial remarks were wiped away by my immediate family... i.e. my husband and two sisters.  They protected me, were by my side and made sure that I was safeguarded from the wags of tongue, till it was safe enough to venture out.

The small family that consisted of two sisters, my husband and me (Sucheeth, Supriya were kids.  Balaji, Rupal and Arvind were born and getting ready to enter our family.. Anirudh, Akshaya, Hiyaa yet to make their presence felt in this world :D).  Losing their father barely a year back didn't make this loss easy for them.  But,  the love they showered on me without any reservations is what I can always remember easily even after 22 years of my married life.

So, about this birthday girl.  What is so special about her?  Hemalatha the 24x7 sweet smiling woman, with a spirit that matches the infants.  Enthusiastic, always game for challenges, fighting them all and what more! Winning every one of these challenges.

The hospitality I always received at her home,  I doubt I can ever match her in the way she fed us,rather plied us with sweets, food, juices, savories.  By god, we always leave her home as if we were about to burst in our seams.

Hemalatha akka for me:

an optimist; a vibrant woman with loads of smile
a great intellect, who can carry conversations effortlessly even if it is PM of India.
an arts lover
a sport lover
someone who never shies of competition infact thrives on them.
a woman with great sense of humour; infact I love the harmless sarcasm in it.
someone blessed with a great voice, be it singing or reading news in AIR.
A mother hen for all of us, as I mentioned early, very protective and her love for everyone of us without any reservations is really astounding.

I could have neglected the fourth paragraph, on this auspicious day but for me it's all about people sticking by your side during tough times and not just during happy times.  It is not just Hemalatha akka, it's the family Deepa my other sister and my husband Suresh.  It's not too easy, to lose their mom, it was time for them to mourn but they sheltered me is something that made me love this family, with all my heart.  I may not be the person to express my love in words.  I always write about feelings and very rare I write about people.  But,  I wanted to today.  You might be sitting in a cabin at your office, far away akka, but I want you to know that you are here in all our hearts.

I would like to wish you a very happy Birthday, in my own way and my own style. A small poetry for you.

When monotony turns life in to boredom,
You looked at ways to celebrate the life,
Finding joy in simplest things,
Finding joy in multitudes and sharing them.

It's not easy, to smile always,
But, your name brings only your smiles to our minds..
People change, but you remain, the usual self.
The energy you absorb from, you give us back in multitudes.

Life has a knack to throw a curve at you,
You are equipped to handle it without a sway.
Taking a stride, that threatens some
The stride, that protects some..

I admire the way you live your life,
A world that you created for you and for us all..
Where you lead, love and cherish
A clan that your fiercely guard.

Happy Birthday, Super woman! May god bless you and all of us! Have a beautiful day and a successful year ahead!

Dear Sowmi

Dear Sowmi,

Hope you are cracking jokes wherever you are.. Or wetting the diaper as Asha's baby.

One year since you left us?  Parted ways?  No! I don't think so.  You are with us every festival,  every Utsavam at Parthasarathy koil,  every time we eat vada, bajji or while drinking sathumadhu (rasam)  in tumbler,  while watching TV,  while listening to prabhandham...  Trust me!  I see you,  whenever I see a strongly built,  tall,  very fair,  bald man.

I see you in myself whenever I grin.. I learnt to keep grinning like a fool from you..  I know it automatically brings a smile on others face.  Usha says she remembers you whenever she takes selfie.  Vasu thinks of you as a friend.  Srikanth thinks you are full of fun.  Periamma  and you are the most complete people I have ever known.

How can I forget your temper and "poruthadhu podhum pongi ezhu"  gunam. All those autowalas whom you fought with for their atrocious rates.  Your making us walk miles to catch auto to save some odd 10 rupees.  Your chiding people who jump queues.  I wish you jumped into politics,  you would have easily won,  my charismatic dearest brother.

You know sowmi,  you are one person who talks with perfect intonations, be it Tamil or English.  I still have the Mukesh Kumar cassette you gave me..  You introduced me to few hindi songs.  "mere sapno me rani kabh"..  I love singing them in tamilish hindi.." Maere sapunomae rani kabhu aayaekithu"..

For me and for all your friends and all our relatives,  when we say sowmi,  we automatically smile.  That is all..  As my favorite Bach says.. " your mission is over",  so you have migrated to another land and I am sure we are waiting to get know ur V2. 0 Dhruv.  He is going to bring in more smiles..

I know you are muttering "please stop" and I will stop now.

Unadherumai thangai,  (erumai thaan arumai illa)
Srimathi

Insane love

Sometimes I wanna wear you like a cloak,
Hugging tight,  as if I am cold...
Sometimes I wanna hang you on a rack,
Feeling sweaty and need some air..

At times I feel you are sweet,
And my diabetes,  makes me wanna eat,
At times, you are a hot 'cross' bun,
I silently drop you till someone takes the brunt.

There are times,  you make me feel mushy,  tearsome,
And at times,  you make me worrysome,
Yet few times,  I feel like kidnapping and demand a ransome.
Other times, I wanna a hold on and pay lumpsum.

It will all be over this lifetime,
So let's do some over time...
Let us laugh, fight, kill and like
Like today is the last day left, of our lives.

Happy birthday, Anirudh!

Ani, as I call him fondly is my son who completed me. The ultimate joy I experienced was at the small laboratory at Anna Nagar when I held the test report in my hands that said, I am shortly going to be a mom and out of the world moment was when I held in my hands for the first time.

Dear Ani,

You are 19 today and stepping into 20. I feel so proud and at loss for words once. From 2.75 kg infant you have come a long way.

There were moments, when I felt exasperated, elated or angered with you around. But, never a dull moment.

I want to tell you my dear Ani, you are everything to me, I cannot imagine a world without you. I wait for that moment when you lift your head from all your responsibilities, entertainment and just give your smile and that is enough for me to carry on with this life for the years to come.

I wish you a very very happy birthday da... :) Amma is never good at showing the love you deserve by hugging or kissing or talking proudly to others about you. She pulls your leg, makes fun of you or complain about you. But, in heart she feels very very proud of you. I don't care what you become, but I want you to be a good human.  The rest will follow. Be there when people need you, be it your friends or relatives and do not expect anything out of others.  This is what I follow and I like to make people around me happy. Trust me! It will make you even more happy. Have great self esteem but do not be proud about yourself at anytime, be humble.

I maybe wrong, but being simple, approachable, and loveable is what will make you happy. I am not saying be content, wish for everything and make your wishes come true, but stop to look around you every now and then. Observe and enjoy little things that surrounds you.

Love you my dear... The only wish I have to god is keep you in good health and surround you with people who will love you the same way we do.

Happy Birthday Anirudh! God bless you always!

24 - The secret gateway to God knows where!

The mystery behind 24:

It's one of those casual days, when I flipped through my FB feeds and found a relative of mine posting just the no 24 and gave us a free rein to guess... His passion is running marathons and quite intense when it comes to running. I frequently see those staggering numbers of kilometres he runs, nothing less than 35 or 40 kms decorating his FB walls through some app calculator.  Just to see those status make me pants, especially for someone who boasts about walking 2 or 3 Kms in a day and feel so proud about it.  This walk most of the times termed by me as photo walks and I stand more at one place and shoot pictures than walking.

My cousin's husband today put a status "24", as usual there were guessing games and he ruled out it is not marathon as he ran 41 kms today and I warned him that I will write a blog post about 24 and it can be anything about 24.  Instead of replying he simply liked my comment and now, I take that as a challenge and as usual try to make it one more blog post. I am, happy that I got some weird topic to rant about.

What can 24 mean? since Wiki at times is too factual and too practical, so not planning to quote many from there.
  • If you keenly look at 2 and 4, you will find 'n' number of things to think of.  Doesn't that look like a Swan with its wings spread high? Doesn't that look like a Snail carrying it's house everywhere?
  • Just to look at that curve 2 and angled 4.  2 looks so girly and curvey and 4 so crisp and manly, when they join together the chemistry hits rock high and Chromium results.
  • Though the numerals are infinite, a day cannot stretch beyond 24 hours, it is too finite isn't it?
  • 24 reminds me of Gold, in the purest form
  • 24 TV series, comprises of 8 seasons, 24 episodes for each season and the 24 episodes comprises of 24 hours in the life of the lead actor
  • Every dimension has kissing numbers and 4th dimension's kissing number is 24; Err! not elaborating, only science can make a word as sensuous as kissing in to something so complicated and technical.  I don't even want to research about it.
But, my guesses comes to a stop here.  Cannot think anything beyond this on 24, may be 12x2=24, that's as far as my Math goes.  Not even by my widest imagination, I can find anything related to marathon and the only Marathon I can think of now is sleep marathon, eat marathon, movie marathon and shop marathon..

Curiosity kills the cat they say, till I die I probably might poke my nose where it is not welcome and do I bother about it? Not at all!  :O Yawn!

Another year passes by and new year waiting to rise...

Where am I? A minutest dot in this whole world, an insignificant dot in this whole universe, writing a blogpost sitting on my couch...

The past year shrunk the world for me... the world I saw was through my windows... a shrunken world.

For someone who had been extremely busy, I became the most idle person and my world started to revolve around my family. Few ups and lots of downs, I am impatient for this year to fold and brand new year to rise. The optimist in me tells me this year will be good and I am waiting little impatient for 2014.

Resolutions: I am scared that I will get shot, if I say that making no resolutions is my resolution. So here are my new year resolutions.

  1. Start to love Viji a little and stop being the worst ever critic.
  2. Start a bucket list of wishes with an end date and push myself to fulfil them.
  3. Strike the word "patience" from my list of virtues.
  4. Extend my love for only those who earned it.
  5. Deliver promises at any cost and expect the same
  6. Take a bus or train and go to the final destination and do a photo walk/stop.
  7. Stop being a jack of all trades and concentrate on one thing and master it.
  8. I saved this last one for the best. To make a head start on my dream about designing and creating silver jewellery. I somehow bent upon the name Jezebel but now having second thoughts. Will keep you posted on the name and details, once it is finalised.

Never witnessed a new year countdown except for watching them in televisions. Hopefully if things goes well and I remain alive and kicking I would love to welcome 2015 standing and cheering with perfect strangers. Not getting any younger you see.

With one prayer on my lips, I end this post. "Make the new year brighter and allow us some peace, little success, little joy and let the love we offer comes back to us if not in multifold atleast a quarter fold."

Now! I am ready to welcome the new year sitting by the side of my windows, my mind has been granted with a free rein and fly to places I would really want to be this year... I might be an insignificant sparrow for your eyes but my mind is capable of taking the shape of an hawk and fly high. Thats one blessing every poet is bestowed with.

Wishing everyone a very happy new year 2014! Have fun!

A letter to my future daughter-in-law

Hi Dear Daughter-in-law,

Hope this letter finds you in good place, shape and mind.

I also hope that you haven't met my son so far.  In case you haven't met him yet, then I want to assure you that he is in good place, ?shape and ?mind too.

Just for you to have an idea about his great mind, he is a great thinker for his age.  He was right next to me, when I titled this post and asked me innocently in Hamam style, "Daughter in law na yaaru ma?" (who is daughter-in-law?)  I replied, "un varungala pondatti" (your future wife). "Oh! You mean my "sister in law"?. I blinked.  "If she is your "daughter"-in-law, then she should be my "sister"-in-law". Ayyo ayyo ayyo.. mudila pa...

Wherever you are, please come soon. Not that I am trying to get rid of my son. He is nice, good looking, tall, fair, handsome and he is in his first year of college and spends 4 hours in travelling to college  and 6 hours in college and 6 hours sleeping.. The rest 8 hours he eats, watches TV, play games in laptop, mobile and eats some more and stay angry.

He got his own weird, twisted sense of humour, most of the times you don't get them and when you get them, you wish you didn't.

He has close to 2000 friends in his FB account and out of the 250 odd indian names, all other names sounds like korean/japanese/chinese. Whatever status he puts in FB, these Korean/Japanese/Chinese promptly likes them and they call themselves as Ma(a)nga something.

He calls everyone Machaan, I am losing count of the machaans and am worried if he means them literally.

I'd rather warn you beforehand to learn and play games, that way you can login from your laptop and he from his laptop and be part of the same multi player games and earn lots of lives and live happily for multiple lifetimes.

If you are a cleanliness freak, then maybe you should learn to ignore little things like the dry food plates collecting fungus lying next to him, a dozen pillows strewn around the room, and his go green, "let us not waste water" during weekends, by taking bath.

Well! all said and done, the bonus is you will get a husband, who will take you to movies everyday and watch English serials with you the rest. If you want to get his attention, try to get an audition with the BBT team and act in Big Bang Theory and I assure you, he will watch the episodes 3 or 4 times a day and you will be duly attended to.

He will not fight with you or hear you screaming as long as your voice crosses the alarming decibel limits. Most of the time, he has his ears plugged to some English music and hums loud.  Not to worry, I will ask him to buy you an earphone too, and you can plug it on as well.

If you are a health freak, then probably you should be less fussy again, as all his favourites consists of either cheese, butter or ghee and one word, no make it two words not in his dictionary are fat-free and sugar- free.

He enjoys his life the way he wants and if you mold your style to match his, welcome aboard.  I have an apartment ready for you guys and it's all yours with my blessings. What!?! No, No I won't move with you guys. What do you take me for? I am not that dumb to come between a young couple.  He is all yours!

Dying to meet you soon.

Regards,
Your Husband's Mom

PS: Unlike other friends of yours, you won't have anything to complain against your mother-in-law.

Have you noticed that your dreams are weirder when you are sick?

When you fall sick and those long hours when you feel drowsy and sleep for hours, your body is in a state of rest, while your mind is erratic and fully functional.  This sleep I would like to term as sick sleep.

This sick sleep, would not refresh you after you wake up.  You keep sleeping the whole day and when you wake up, your throat would be parched, you'd feel sweaty, your back stiff and a blistering headache.  Coffee or food tastes like cardboard.  You feel as if your tongue thickened twice it's original size and words come out in strange tone.

Those long hours you sleep, full of dreams, weird ones at that.  The past two days, I had been on a sleep wake state and had dreams, which got weirder and weirder as hours stretched by.

1st dream:

I am alone at my house and wanting to do laundry, opened my washing machine to find a baby sleeping inside.  I carry her and put her on the floor and she starts to crawl. Slowly one by one, I find half a dozen babies in different places and I bring this huge plate and carry them all and make them sit on this plate.  I call police and complain and when the officer comes home, I hand over the plate to him and when I look at it there are half a dozen Lord Krishna statues sitting on that and I don't even bat a lid, I tell the officer this is what I was talking about and he says in turn, be careful madam.  I will take care of them and let me know if you find more babies. They will by now know that you went to police and it won't be babies next time, grown ups will start coming is my assumption.  Saying that he leaves.

2nd dream:

I visit to a friend's place and after chatting for sometime, ask my friend's wife if I can use the rest room and she takes me to her kitchen and I find the commode in the place of kitchen sink.  And, as usual I don't even bat a lid... ahem let me stop right there...!

3rd dream:

I go to a second hand book shop and asks the shop keeper for a particular title, he leads me to a rack and I find that the whole rack is stacked with the books I asked for.  I look at them and start searching for the title...

4th dream:

With my friend, I am at Tanjore to take photos of Thanjai Periya koil.  We park the car near the temple and start walking to the temple.  We walk and walk and walk... I ask my friend, "can you see the temple?". He says, "yes".  The next thing I remember is talking to a pooja item shop keeper.  He tells me, I can take photos but should not use flash.  I agree and handover my camera to him.  We walk inside the temple and I take photographs. Don't ask me, "How?".  Therinja solla maataena? (If only I know...)

5th dream:

My friend is sick terribly,  I pray to god to give me his illness and give good health to him.  Next thing I remember I am lying down on the road on a rope cot and IV injection on my hands and my friend sitting next to me on a chair.  I tell him that I feel like vomiting  he takes a syringe and open the lid on the IV and inject a red medicine inside it.  Then he picks the phone and tell someone, another 10 minutes max.

6th dream:

My son's 12th result day and Sure checks his no and finds that he got 72 percent and Manoj my friend checks his result and tells me that he had flopped in the exam and after sometime, I go to a browsing centre to check his results and finds that he is the top ranker in his school and when I go to his school, his principal is hoisting national flag and at the end of the national anthem (not jana gana mana, but A.R. Rehman's vande mataram) she gives an orange coloured Parry's toffee and tells everyone that Anirudh is the school topper and he scored 770/1200... If Anirudh gets to know about this, I swear he would kill me.

I woke up and found as if I walked millions of miles, totally drenched, palpitating and my mom was telling my dad, my fever broke.

And there was one more dream, which I am not going to mention here. A kinky one at that ;)

To my adorable sister, Usha!

Dearest Usha,

I write this letter to you to share with you and to this whole world about ours "yours lovingly" moments, "not talking to you moments", "nee yaaro naan yaaro moments", "Pragati computers moments" ;) and "hey! avan enna paathaandi moments"..

I am starting this with a huge smile and am sure I am going to end it with lol moment.

So, where was I?  The day my dad thought am too much trouble to my very pregnant mom and dropped me on your laps at Teynampet, Postal colony.  You looked down at me, with hands on your hips as if saying, I am your big sis and you got to listen to me and me alone.  It was then I started to blindly adore everything you adored and hated everything you hated.  If you fight with opposite flat Kokila, then I didn't talk with her too and if you found Ayyar mama's son Sekar is a good boy, I prostrated on his feet and worshiped him.

If you had toothache, I took leave.  We got our first bell bottom suits.  My dad's gifts for us. Your's green striped and mine, Navy blue stripes...

Ah! how can I forget Ravi's wedding?  Periamma got me both of us the same colour pattu paavadai.  navy blue with orange border.  My first pattu paavadai and the huge jimmiki (ear rings), which was perfect for you but oversized for me, yet I wanted to wear the same design, same size..

I remember us always clone twins, soaping our faces together, looking at the mirror, wondering who is fairer.    As you stepped in to teens, you slightly got busy with your friends and found me little younger, while ruthlessly followed you, whether you wanted me or not.  I know, I know am such a dumb ass with no tact.

Somehow, after I stepped in to my teens, you started to consider me as your equal and we discussed about everything.  Boys.. that good looking lad in your computer centre.  The handsome boy in my maths tuition   Lovely ain't it?  and how can I forget Dr. S's son? Who always followed me and made sure that I reached school and following me back home in the evening - my personal body guard.

Meenakshi College, your principal, her eccentricities and my brilliant sis, who believed that reading out the lessons loud will keep away the distractions and walking that huge hall at the backyard of our house in Vadapalani.  The red oxide flooring, you walking too and fro and studying loud. While I didn't share your belief and read my lessons silent.  The advantage being,  I can day dream as much as I want, till you ask me questions and pinch me or twist my ears.  After being punished, I was made to walk and read loud too and I kept looking at my feet and carefully measured every step and forgot to read at the same time and when I still was not able to answer the questions, you decided it is sheer waste of time to teach me and devoted your time on other cousins to my biggest relief.

All our cousins (too grown up for me), I remember Sesha, Madhu, Vasu and you murmuring about UFOs and murder mysteries(I remember Hitchcock name and H.G. Wells Invisible Man), Didi's comedy show, Giant Robot and till today, whenever I hear these words, I remember those days, when we sat together, you guys talking and I listened to it raptly. Couldn't understand much, as I was the youngest member.  But, I should say that you were the guys, who invoked in me the interest in literature and books.  A big thanks to you all!

Whenever Srikanth and I come home, periamma, put one extra glassful of rice to cook and we used to laugh about it (remember, I was barely 35 kgs and Srik was 20 odd kgs.  We were very poor eaters.  I request Srikanth a.k.a Srinivas Vijayaraghavan to revive his blog by writing a blogpost on these flashbacks and he might have lots to share about you, Vasu and Sita Periamma)..

Ah! all those group photo moments... You are a pathetic lier usha.. you always led me to believe that I looked gorgeous and when I look at the photos now, I find that it was a lie and I look like an ugly duckling next to you, the most beautiful woman in our family.

One of those group photos, you in brown sari, Sreeram athimber, and me in Saffron coloured standing next to you and Ravi and Manni, Sita periamma, sridevi manni, Vasu and lovely lovely neices and nephew (now all of them married and a couple of them made us grand aunts too, at such an young age like ours :P)

The day arrived, when Sreeram athimber came to see you, I was at office. When I heard that you spent your first conversation at Marina Beach talking about buffalos and cows, I couldn't help but laugh and laugh.  What a weird conversation to have with a fiancee...

When Sure came to see me, I trusted you to take a peep at him and tell me if he is handsome or not.  I missed to tell you that, I already took a look at him from the balcony, even before you saw him.  The yellow and maroon sari (contrast to Sure's lavender and baby pink - OMG weird colour, yet looked good on him) you draped me in and you taking so much pain to cut the mangoes crisp, without making them pulpy and that fragrant coffee(till today Sure is a big fan of the coffee you make), as Sure's family didn't believe in eating sojji and bajji.. Wow! only you can be so caring and little bossy too :)

Usha, when I think about those days, to me it is a huge smiley... beautiful memories.  We lost our thatha, patti, athimber and periamma but I can never cry over their deaths.  They gave us so much life, they are still part of us and I atleast dream about vichoor paati and seetha periamma once a month.  Their life was the most colourful canvas, where we all kept adding colours and it became one huge myriad of sunny colours, too too happy and cheerful.  Whether we will be able to provide our kids, such a joyous life is doubtful.  When compared to ours, their lives are bleak like Scotland winter.

Have I ever told you that you had been a wonderful Sis? I refuse to call you my cousin.  You are always my sis and however the world terms our relationship, till the day we leave this world, I will call you my sister and the only person whom I can pick the phone and talk to 24*7..

Love you loads di...

Yours loving 'younger' sister,
Srimathi

PS:  There was one jealous moment in our life, when we went to Radha's wedding and you had lunch with out calling me with Viji (?our second cousin), she was your age and I was not aware of that and waited for you and when I called you, you told me that you had already with Viji.  I cried a little and didn't have my lunch at all :(  Now it sounds so silly, yet another beautiful memory got added.

The sprig that stays green in otherwise b&W canopy...

This photo shot by my nephew, Vijay Soundararajan @ Seattle, Washington... Beautiful ice clad hills and one green little sprig that escaped the snow, begged me to write a poetry...

Love emanating from two little hearts,
Desire emanating from two great bodies,
Hatred influenced by a broken heart,
Death influenced by a rebelling soul...

Be it! the little green sprig,
Be it! the massive mountain chest,
Be it! the you; who observes the truth,
Whoa! nature shows us no proof...

White fluffy snow, when influenced by mountains,
Turns as hard as flint, though an ephimeral stint...
Hard flinty snow, when influenced by the Sun,
Turns in to a glaciers and drum the rock and dent...

This little sprig, refuse to bend,
With undaunted, fiery rebellion,
Neither losing its colour,
nor the space it stands,
Those little roots minute,
Ready to fend itself in those gusts...

Every joy has its reasons,
Every sadness has its reasons,
Exaggerated when held close,
Dismissed when heart forces.

Asha kalyana vaiboghamae

Asha's wedding on 2nd September 2012.

You know what it means... a fortnight of selecting, discarding silk saris.  A week of browsing through the jewel case, hunting jewels that would go with the saris, having in mind and selecting carefully... What if the relatives would recollect me wearing that Sari, at my other niece's wedding that happened couple of years back.

Mom behind trying to deck me with gold that I detest wearing. Why not silver, my young little heart refuses to understand :-( and she is not happy with a chain or just a choker.  May be she feels that I deserve this punishment for all the jewels she gave me for my wedding.

Hurriedly trying to colour the grey hairs.  A quick visit to the beauty parlour.  Ah! forgot to add the trip to Athreya, Nungambakkam a month before to stitch blouses for silk saris, turning a blind eye, to the fact that size of the blouse has increased at least 5 inches and paying double the cost of the Sari.  What more? Free advice from the sales woman, who refuses to see your point and is very candid and opines that the design you chose for the blouse would look good on the model but not on yourself as you are fat.  "You have those 'tyres' on your hip mam... not one but two" she added.  "So, let's make the blouse longer that way we can hide them."  There was this other sales girl who disagreed with the other woman and felt that, I should flaunt my fair skin and it is a sin if I don't.  Your husband standing next to you with a smug smile, you truly wish the ground he stands, opens up and swallows him.

Now... Who is Asha?  She's my niece.  Little girl whom I remember seeing, the day she was born and fair beautiful angel with a beautiful pink birthmark above her lips.  She looks even more beautiful and getting married to my handsome, brand new would be nephew-in-law, Kali.  God bless the happy couple!

PS: The photo you see here is taken today, when we are trying to choose the saris...

Let me know if you are interested to know, what I am planning to wear for Asha's nichayathartham, her Jathakarnam namakarnam, her reception, her oonjal, muhurtham...I will write another post on this after the wedding... till then folks...

Forgot to add, Suresh and I got married, the same day 18 years back...

Seetha kalyaana vaiboghamae; Rama kalyaana vaiboghamae....

I believe I can touch the sky

Google doodles Amelia Earhart on her 115th Birthday, that's today.  Now did I hear this name quite recently somewhere?  I tried to recollect and Oh! Yeah! the Maruti Suzuki sequel "kitna deti hai".  Quickly checked wiki and realised that it was Amelia Johnson, yet another aviatrix.

Leaned back on my chair,  with my morning cup of coffee slowly thoughts drifted to the day when I flew for the first time.  It was from Mumbai to Chennai and I was 38 years old then.  My brother booked the flight tickets and I was thrilled as well as slightly afraid.  Along with my mom, husband, and son entered the airport.  It was flying for first time for all of us except for my husband.

I checked in at the airport and waited for the security check. My wish to fly was so intense, I would have dreamt about flying at least 10 or 15 times.  For a person who had never seen the insides of an airplane, in my dreams I saw it as a bus.  There were times when I stood, holding the iron rails on the roof of the plane, probably to balance when the flight turned right or left.  There were times when, I stood on a long queue to buy tickets for my flight to the US, and my mom would precisely aim that moment to wake from me my dreams.  And once in my dream, when I was about to enter the airplane, I heard two men talking in whispers about their plans to hijack the plane and I call the watchman/police aside and tell them what I overheard and they stop the flight.  But, never once the flight took off and I travelled on air.

It was a low fare flight and with so many what-ifs running in mind, climbed the air plane, to be greeted by the air hostess and a dashing steward.  I gave my usual broad smile, wondering why others just nodded off those greetings.  I got into the flight but forgot to bring the cotton to plug in to my ears.  Anyways, I remembered my brother showing me a pouch with earphones, toffees etc and was waiting for them to deliver my kit.  After a while, I realized they don't provide such kits in low fare flights.  Those flights were meant for everyone to fly and the flight charges affordable to everyone.  I saw an old man carrying an old polythene bag and thrust the bag inside the cupboard on top of his seat.  He carried on with the flight rituals as if he travelled everyday from Mumbai to Chennai. I kicked myself for visiting the prominent shop which sells high class leather bags and paid a fortune to buy one, just because I was flying the next week.

A pretty girl who sat on the row before me, pressed the switch and called for the flight attendant.  The handsome guy who greeted me walked through the aisle and asked her how he could help her.  She asked for some cotton and he provided her some.

I coughed and asked him little hesitant if he can provide me some cotton too.  He apologized and told me that they don't have the cotton and if he could help with anything else.  Felt embarassed and decided not to ask him anything until of course he comes back to me with an apology.

I was thrilled when the plane slowly crept to the run way and like a thunder zoomed past the runway and lifted its wing.  Finally my dream came true and I started to hum, "I believe I can fly; I believe I can touch the sky", though on a different context, I did fly and tried touching the sky and with due thanks to my brother.

All the jubilation, remained only for 3 or 4 minutes, all of a sudden the air plane slowly tilted to its left and then to right and went down few feet low, my stomach lurched and I knew for sure something was wrong and waited for the crew to announce we are living the final few minutes of our life. No announcement came and after few minutes the airplane righted itself. I was aware of every move of the plane.  Most of the time the plane was tilted and I decided to reduce some weight before I flew the next time.

There was a small commotion, when the air-hostesses dragged a small pantry on wheels and took the orders, collected the money and delivered the goodies .  I didn’t bat an eyelid when my son wanted a cold drink and heard the price was thrice the original cost, but bought it with a flourish.

My hands held tight and lips chanting "Ram", the 1 hour and 45 minutes stretched like one day for me and held my breath tight till the final announcement came that we are landing the Meenambakkam airport, Chennai.  I was still holding my breath, till the third wheel was lowered with a thud on the ground.  I had heard that accidents happen, when the third small wheel attached to the nozzle of the flight refuse to lower. It was only when the air plane stopped at the runway and I stood to get down, I realized that I had been a fool not to enjoy the trip but spent it worrying hard.  Not that I wanted to smile, but wouldn’t it be considered rude if I didn’t return the smile of the handsome steward as I was leaving.

Did I tell you that I am now 41 and travelled 7 times after my first experience and still get little queasy when the wings slightly lower and balances after the take off and I had gained 8 kgs since then. And, did I tell you that I am scared of heights?

My morning chats

After 8 years of being incredibly busy, I recently quit my job and had lots of time in my hand and no clue how to handle it responsibly.

My typical mornings starts with a cup of sugarless coffee and newspaper in my hand. Exactly 30 minutes later, my cousin Sowmi would join me for a chat.  To introduce Sowmi to you, he is a synthetic organic chemist, who did his Ph.d in Synthetic Organic chemistry from IIT Mumbai.  Why am I giving you such an elaborate intro for Sowmi?  Coz from the same family hailed "me" whose nightmare is Chemistry and if someone asks me what an atom is, I would say an atom is a bomb. So, for me Sowmi is God's incarnation, who understood what actually molecules, atoms, compounds and elements are and still has his brain intact.

I still don't understand why copper can't be called CO instead of CU and Iron IR instead of FE;  I used to be confused between the difference of 2H and H2(the two is subscript). My teacher explained 2H is two molecules of Hydrogen and H2 indicates two Hydrogen atoms (still not sure).  I stood confused before a huge green board, and the teacher who was less than 5 feet, loomed before me like Goliath.  She ?guided me to balance an equation.

1. Balance an element that has one reactant and product
2. Once you balance an element, proceed to the next and next until all elements are balanced.
3. Balance the chemical formulas by placing the coefficients in front.
4. Don't add subscripts, as that would change the formula itself.

*Blink* just like when Spike hits Tom's head with a club, and Tom's eye balls, like a fortune wheel circles fast and rest....I understood it's better to leave the equations the way they are and not to mess with them.  It was then I decided to opt for English as my major in college, which later turned out to be a nightmare for my lecturers.  That's another story.

Now back to where I left, listing my conversations with my geek bro.

Day - 1 :

Sowmi:  "Reverend Jim Jones, was a self proclaimed prophet.  He had 1000s of loyal followers, who donated their entire life savings to him to join his commune.  When the authorities smelled illegal activities, investigation began and to avoid facing the charges, Jim Jones committed suicide and convinced all his followers to ingest cyanide and commit suicide.  This led to mass suicide of 909 members out of which 200 were Children."

He didn't stop there, he started to talk about Cyanide and also this conversation led to the death of Napolean Bonaparte by arsenic poisioning and the properities of arsenic.  I cut short and asked the details of Jim jones and mass suicide and I came to know that it happened in the year 1978, when I was 7.  I was in class 3, Mukundh was my best friend. Mukund happened to be our school correspondent's son and because I was the best friend of Mukund's, I was every girl's envy. While I remembered all these details, it's unbelievable that either I forgot or not aware of the Mass suicide that happened at Jonestown.  I was shocked and spent close to 3 hours reading about this mass suicide in net.

Remember it's not a natural disaster, self inflicted disaster:

Notes left by the followers of the cult:

Day 2:

Sowmi:  I had worked for pharma, cosmetics, flavour, fragrance industries and though the platform was different, I am a chemist and I have to invent a flavour, fragrance or a drug once in two weeks and was able to invent it.  Pretty interesting job and it doesn't end there, there were several tests that were conducted before it came to market. There was a unit, whose prime target is to breed thousands and thousands of rats.
Viji aside: (Imagine this, people were paid to breed rat... their job is to make rat eat, grow, mate, give birth.)
Viji aloud: But, the animal welfare; don't they object to this cruelty to animals?
Sowmi: We administer these tests on animals for human welfare and it has to be conducted. It doesn't end with Rat, it's also conducted on Rabbits later Monkeys.
Viji: The animals were left to die?
Sowmi: Yes, ofcourse.  When I worked for a pharma industry, I used to work on drugs that used to treat Diabetes.  We make Rats diabetic and inject newly developed chemical to see the sugar level.  If the sugar level drops down in the rat, it is the candidate for next level. After the tests the rat is destroyed eitherways.
Viji: Now, I know what "lab rat" means.

Day 3:

Sowmi: Women are known for their ambient vision.
Viji: Ambient? appadina?
Sowmi: Peripheral vision.  If you sit inside a dark room alone,  if there is a lizard that crawls on the wall behind you, don't you turn and look at the direction of the lizard?
Viji: Yes. (I nodded, now, I am interested.. Liz and Cockroaches interests me; I had spent 10 to 15 minutes in toilet gazing at Cockroaches.  I am fine as long as they don't fly.  You know, Cockroaches turn white in colour, when they molt).  What you are trying to say is women have the peripheral vision, while men don't?
Sowmi:  Both of them have.  But, women have wider and better peripheral vision.  For example, in a roomful of people, if someone stare at a woman, she will feel it and train her eyes in the direction of the person who stares at her.  They can spot an approaching danger or notice changes in the people behaviour and appearances, while men have a narrow range of vision.

Day 4 and 5 didn't happen, as I fell sick and my ambient vision overworked and I ended up hallucinating and worked overtime for the hospital I used to work 15 years back and for the organisation I worked until a week back.  It was nightmarish, doing both the jobs at the same time.

If you want to blame someone for this post or planning to sue me, I am not responsible.  Please sue the TN government for cutting electricity for two hours everyday.  Why the hell, I should be the only person to suffer?

Are you happy, Viji?

I was chatting with a friend today and shocked myself by saying, "It's like my legs are amputated and I look down to see my legs missing , yet not feeling the pain".

He said, "Strong words".

So, everyday of mine, begins with "Are you happy,Viji?" and "Don't forget you have turned 40 and more than half way through your life time."

Am I happy? Yes, I have a neat family, caring friends, adequate job... "What more?" asked myself.  Hurriedly, I tried to supress the answers that came out.... "You have few dreams, ambitions waiting to be lived and few medical conditions, waiting to be cured"... "Hmmm, soon... very soon", I said to myself and hurried collecting my laptop bag, handbag and lunch bag to office.

My mind talks out too loud and I quiten it by playing music too loud.  And, I don't fear being deaf,  I don't fear having high sugar, I don't fear having palpitations.  Does that make me brave?

I am dangerously close to being termed as a bore, if I continue my laments any more... This blatant fear of boring others, is going to make me stay away from my friends.

I heard my friend screaming through his message, "Woman! you know Lance Armstrong?"

"Who that cycling guy who suffered from cancer?" I replied.

"Yes! you should read his autobiography", he said and added, "these are people whom you look upto in your darkest times and just when you want to give up, they pull you back in"...

I quoted, Steve Jobs and Yuvaraj Singh names for my part and we cheered their spirit by toasting emots of beer mug and wine glass... When I said my byes to this friend, I was wondering if I should land up with cancer too, to gain the spirit of living.

The bus stopped and I gathered my laptop bag, hand bag and lunch bag and slowly balancing myself in the moving bus, prepared to get down the bus.  Every inch, I moved my knees screamed and reminded me, ""Don't forget you have turned 40 and more than half way through your life time..." and "Are you happy, Viji?".

B&W to colour days... a trip down my memory lane...

It was like yesterday, I went to school and it was like just few hours, since I got married to Suresh and it's like just minutes since Anirudh was born.

This 2nd September, Sure and I stepped in to 18th year of our married life, and when I look back it's full of marital bliss, challenges and fights... Every day is different and there are times when every day was just the same.

It's become a tradition for me to write a poetry or a snippet for my wedding anniversaries and didn't want to put a stop to that tradition.

Planning to keep this blog post, a souvenir for my grandchildren.  Hope they read this post and pour over the old photographs of their beautiful grandma, grandpa and their dad...

This was how I evolved....

My Dad decided that my Mom, would be his eternal partner and I have witnessed their affinity to each other, love at times and fights some time. If you look at their wedding photograph, Mom holding her leg firm and keeping her distance and dad slightly leaning to his left and made sure to respect the distance.... Date: 12th sep 69 "Spring of 69"? and Viji resulted on a Summer of 1971...

(the last to your right in the first row is Viji, in drill "shun" posture; that was a new white canvas shoe, I bought for the group photo event)

Let's not talk about schools, colleges or my marks... lets stick to interesting aspects of my life...

Dad and Mom,  who got married little late in their life, mom on her late twenties and dad in early thirties, decided to get me married little early, still wondering why they were not punished for their offence, encouraging child marriage.

So, they chose the same month they got married and chose Suresh as their Son-in-law and hung to him like their life line.. Sure yielded very happy, handsome and not knowing that he is being sucked in to a whirlwind of utter madness... yeah! he had me, what else?

But he is the rein, who made sure, that I don't get overboard and do things at instinct. When hours of arguments with my parents doesn't work, Sure's silence would make me yield to whatever he says and his decisions are well thought off. He is sensible, practical and a man with such a dashing smile all the time.  We got engaged to be married on 24th June 1994.

(Hey Sure, between you fell for that long hair didn't you?)

It was decided that we are to be married on 2nd September 1994. My Brother, Srinivasan's upanayanam (thread ceremony) was also fixed on the same date.  He was studying in college then. Now that he a CEO of a company, I don't want to damage his ego by publishing his body builder photograph.. when I weighed close to 40 kgs, he would have weighed 35 kgs or so.

The day dawned with a mild drizzle and I was clad in 9 yards madisaar sari, kept eyeing at the half naked man standing next to me shyly.  Sure was crying (he was sitting before agni in the homa kundam), his huge shell frame glasses, hiding those eyes, adorned with Kajal. Kajal courtesy, my mom... her hand trembled while applying Kajal in suresh's eyes before "kaasi yaathirai" and the tremble in her hand resulted in a thick blotch of kajal upto 2 inches below his eyes and as he tried to rub it off, it got rubbed on and he looked quite a sight.

At 9.50 AM, Suresh tied the Thaali on my neck and that was the moment of my life. I was looking at Suresh, while he was busy shaking hands with his friends and relatives :)

That was the only day, I was dazed and silent in my life, the only day I didn't go overboard and kept my mouth sealed, only spoke when a question was addressed or a response was expected. Kept smiling the whole day.

At 3.25 PM on 1st July 1996, Anirudh was born after a very tough labour which lasted for 18 hours and when I realised, I had no energy to "Push", C-section was conducted and Ani was born.  Very chubby and cute baby.

It was in the year 1997, a day before Ani's first birthday, I quit my job and became a home maker.  Ani used to wake up at 6 in the morning and go to bed by 9.30 in the night. A chatterbox like me... whatever I used to talk, he used to repeat in the same rhyme, even before he started to talk. And, he expected me to talk to him the whole day and he loved to repeat every sentence, at the beginning we were amazed but later became tired and I started to sing. When I complete a song and take a breather, he will say "MMMM...." and start to sing ooo la la la, ooo la la la.. (minsara kanavu days) and expect me to join. Even now, I change the channel when "mana madurai maamara kilayilae" song is played...

Even if his eyes closes on its own volition, he will make sure to rub the eyes and keep wake.  It was tiring, trying 2.8 years but full of fun too and then Ani started his school. I had half a day and wow...! it was a luxury, I didn't waste those few hours and I slept.  This idleness after all the exercise of running around at job and behind Ani, was the reason behind my increased weight.

7th September 2007, we arranged for Anirudh's thread ceremony and it was the same handsome Suresh, and slightly heavy viji, who exchanged garlands again....

Ani's school and there he is sitting to the right of his class teacher.... Can't believe time runs this fast, Ani is taller than me now and I feel really proud, when I see my handsome son and his "take a chill pill" kinda look he gives me all the time.

Now when I look back at the 17 years of my married life, I see moments of joy, moments of depression, moments of love, moments of passion and excitement... Now, I am in to human resources in an IT company and I love my job, the serene and tranquil work place and wonderful people around..

June 2011, saw our house warming, a small apartment and I have a secret passion for interior decoration and I am doing it to my home, little by little...

Three dreams of mine still remains my dream and I wish to make them real in a year or two.... I want to travel to Scotland and if there is a chance then whole Europe.  Then I want to travel to Tibet... and build a small boutique of my own...that's all...! hope am not greedy... I pray to god to keep me alive and healthy till then...

Tomorrow, 12th September, my parents celebrate their 42nd wedding anniversary, and when I spoke to my dad today, he told me "It was like yesterday.... your mom and I got married..." :)

Life goes on....memories stay... Don't you think so?

To wake upon 40th Birthday....

"Forty is the old age of youth; fifty is the youth of old age"
~Victor Hugo

On the eve of my 40th Birthday, its strange to feel what I am feeling right now.  I realized today why people are secretive about their age, especially women.  Though, you get older every year, it's kind of scary when you step in to 30 and nightmare when you turn 40...

Stock taking:

As usual the stock taking for the year is happening inside me and to my surprise I found it increased in leaps and bounds.  4 inches in my frame, 6 kgs in body weight, 25-30 heart beat (extra)/minute, 20-25 brand new titanium hairs (Courtesy: not L'oreal)

There were certainly few stocks which got decreased like 25% of hair, 2dB loss in hearing, ?.75 D as hypermetropia (note that I am already myopic) and am not sure, if I should list this in increase or decrease... bit confused here.

I also found that there were certain areas were the stock was equal rather neutral / no change. My dreams, career, friends, family.

So, what now...?!?

I asked myself and slowly it dawned on me the advantages of turning 40.  This is the time when one can feel healthy disregard on what others would think and live for themselves. It's pretty rejuvenating and exhilarating to experience this magic. I also now have the authority (as a "been there, done it all" types) to advice younger generation and have the right not to listen to any advices from "oldies" ("Common! you can't keep advising me forever, I am forty myself").

This fact is kind of liberating, the feel that you are superior and you don't have to listen to anyone....

But I also realized few changes in me, which pulled me down and I term it as Symptomatic 40 Syndrome... here I am listing them for you.
  1. "About me" page needs a revisit...
  2. Looking out for my school mates in social networks and think of having a reunion.
  3. Make sure to "comment" and "like" your friends, family member's updates, photos in facebook and fish for comments and response and feel down when they are not receptive.
  4. Quick trips to beauty parlors are mandatory and not a luxury anymore.
  5. Yeah! preaching varieties of -isms the same way, my moms and aunts preached.
  6. A bit quick to forgive myself, considering my age.
  7. Taking more care to look young and feel elated when people say, "You are 40? you don't look that way" and feel disappointed when they say you don't look a day older than 35. (Whew! what do you expect, that they will tell you that you look like a teen?)
  8. Start complaining about health and think of retirement.
Common Viji! You are 40 and not "Paati" (Grandma in Tamil) yet :) buck up buddy!

Oh! Yeah! to add up to the above list,

9.  Give pep talk to yourself

(The way I just did in the previous sentence.)

Dammit! I just can't believe, I am living the last few hours of my late 30s and I simply can't believe I am writing this post.

DoWn(...)FaLL !!!

"Trouble comes in threes!" is what people say...

I agree to this whole heartedly... My blog followers, now should be aware of my rendezvous with my staircase and my forced agoraphobia.

Last week of December, saw to my husband's passion towards shuttle cock, which eventually led to fractured calcanium and few months of bed rest.

I thought the worst was over, little I knew what's up next.

My son, who went to school, looking smart in friday school wear, came back with torn trousers full of blood and huge bruises on his knee and deep cut.  Like heroic teenage guy, his school duck back almost touching his back of knee aka popliteal fossa aka knee pit (why worn that loose, I don't have any idea), fell down from the bus (I am sure it should have been a moving bus), though he claims, he got down when it stopped.  Thank God for small mercies, one of the busiest highway, there were little traffic as it was afternoon. When my mom took him to doctor, he refused to take a tetanus shot leave alone sutures.

It just doesn't stop there, one flow of visitors followed by another, came to visit my ?invalid son, who played cityville, the unhurt leg swinging from the chair, another stretched on a chair, music blasting from his woofers, his ill pitched falsetto damaging our ear drums. The PC table and the adjacent table filled with packets of potato wafers, rasgulla, snack twisters (murukku in tamil - new coinage) and two bottle of waters, which disappears in one hour time and darling son expects that to be refilled every now and then. His loo episodes was too dramatic when compared to my husband who has serious injury, is subtle and sweet.  The same injured leg, when his friends (both the sexes) drop in, will start with few limps, few curses, then whole lot of fun, laughing out loud... where does that wail and grunt of pain disappear, I don't understand.  The moment they leave, the grumble begins.

Realised in the past month that life has few hidden corners and few ugly surprises meandering by. Only that I was escaping those corners till then and now facing the challenges and literally taking the bull by its horn. Atleast for me its just some mental and physical strain, I am worried about the pain my husband is silently going through every day.  Never seen a person like him and a wonderful guy.

Ah! Ani is another story.  Tomorrow, I need to change his dressing, god give me the patience and whatever it needs to do the task without letting things go out of hand.  I wish he grows up fast and get married and be blessed with a kid like him and I swear he is going to enjoy his "nuclear" family!

Did I tell you, that I cried when I was told he got hurt? Did I tell you that I am continuously smiling, when I am writing about ani's tantrums.  I swear there is not one dull moment with my darling son around.  Love him a lot... Poor kid after all he is too young and it is difficult for someone as young as him to bear the pain, he is not like us grown up, isn't he???

Get well soon Sure, Ani! Missing our weekend bike rides! Common! polish your knee and ankle caps and jump out of your beds soon... just can't wait!

wisdom comes with experience

At one, I learnt crawling was fun. At forty one, I still feel crawling is fun #blamemykneesnotme
