My Sins against Gender-Stereotypes

Dickylona fame, Harsha tagged me on ‘My Sins against Gender-Stereotypes’...

If you are a man,

Have you ever wanted something that only women are supposed to want – like bags, shoes, clothes, creams, perfumes, babies, flowers? A peaceful home and a happy family? Have you ever been afraid of the dark or of insects?

As a kid did you ever want to play ‘teacher-teacher’, cooking or did you like playing with a doll? Have you ever enjoyed cooking? Bought something in pink? Loved chocolates?

If you are a woman,

Have you ever wanted something that is considered ‘manly’ ? Like a basketball, a cell phone, a dog, a camera or a new laptop? A new car or motor bike? Ever wanted to be a pilot? A doctor or not a nurse? And the manliest want of them all – The remote!

As a kid did you enjoy playing with a bat and a ball?

There was a time when books were considered ‘manly’, women authors had to pretend to be men – would you say books are still rather manly – women should want to embroider and crochet?

So here’s the tag – Please list at least ten things you have ever wanted or done which your gender is not supposed to.

If you are an Ape,

You can skip this tag for now and concentrate on evolving as a man/woman, then try to take this tag.

Statutory warning:

The tag is called ‘My Sins against Gender-Stereotypes’. And you need not tag twelve blogging friends and there's no condition that you will get cursed to wear blue clothes pants if you are a woman and PINK shirts if you are a man – for next twelve years . So, feel free to contribute or ignore the tag :)

10 things I did and would wish to do, which my gender is not supposed to:
  1. Envy men, when they use the wash room just quarter the time women use..wish I could use the loo the way they do, quick and zip.
  2. Only girl in a 10 member cricket team, and this continued for 5 years till I turned 13.
  3. Opened electronic gadgets, when it doesn't work and try to fix it. Like most of the men, I would not be able to fix. Will assemble it haphazardly and put it back in the place silently where it belonged to.
  4. Love to wear a trouser and shirt, not bothering about accesories.
  5. Keep the comb ready, to comb my hair, even when I view the car window.
  6. Sporting a moustache, its not a wish but in real.
  7. Punched my friend's shoulder so hard, she winced and threw her tiffin box on me.
  8. Swear and thump when mad - a wish
  9. Worn a 6 inch heel and tired to look tall and powerful, half an inch taller than Suresh, and tried to boss around him, only that he did something naughty., oh! no I'm shy, am not sharing that with you.
  10. Want to slam the beer mug with a "thud", never touched liquor in my life, just for slamming it on the table, I want to hold the mug once.

food for your thought....13 not 12 :) now I am not telling, who i imagined an ape...

No.1 & 10 top the list (ROFL)

Actually barbie dolls shudnt been given to little girls. I used to think what Psychological thoughts would run in their head, as they undress it..

I used to bathe the dolls, powder them and dress them up, as a kid, i feel almost every kid does it..

True, I have heard one incident in my town, one boy used to pretent feeding his doll observing his mother feed his sister.

You have written it very well Viji.. But i dont know what to write for this tag..

Thanx for the tag VIji.. I think this tag is the rage, I find it in almost all the blogs..

I missed out one point, dont say u want to wear trousers and shirts without accessories, Viji without her silver earings, bangles..no way

i was not born with silver ear rings and bangles devs :) not karnan you see.... ha ha... i liked the part when u said girls like to dress dolls while boys like to undress them... I never had a girl doll to play when i was young... I used to have one arab sheik rubber doll...i used to call him dhadi bommai..(toy with a beard)... very recently gave it to one of my cousin's kid..i had it with me so long... he will carry one yellow currency bag in hand and the smile is so catchy, he was the first guy whom i fell in love with. :) handsome wealthy sheikh he was and trust me when I say, i never allowed him to have an harem as I always played with boys...
